LED Lights Respond to Now-Patented Blown Glass LED Light&nbs

A LED blown glass light created by Sam Schwarz of Schwarz Art has landed the artist a utility patent for the design, reports The World Link. He previously came to the attention of lighting experts when he created blown glass post caps for stair railings, and Springfield Museum quickly asked him to create a larger piece for their exhibit.

Schwarz said: "So I had this idea rolling around in my head. And my mentor said LEDs are the way of the future, so I've paid close attention to that world. I began searching for the materials and figuring out how to fit these things together.”

In 2009, Schwarz created his first fixture using LED technology and the resulting chandelier was used for the Springfield Museum exhibition. It is for this lighting fixture that he has been granted with a patent. Schwarz plans to next design and manufacture hand held LED flashlights, which would be rechargeable to reduce people’s use of batteries.

“My bulbs would be upgradeable, so instead of throwing them away they could be replaced or upgraded,” he added. “I don't want them to end up in a landfill…They will dominate the future of lighting markets. LED is an electric chip, so it runs on DC (direct current) and runs off batteries, which makes it more versatile."

The expert team at LED Lights.co.uk, who have been involved in the LED and lighting industries for many years, have commended Sam Schwarz for his achievement. A spokesperson for the company said:

“LED lighting is where many of the most creative ideas, designs and products are being created, and Sam Schwarz’s blown glass lighting fixture is a great example of this. The fact that he has been granted a patent for this is brilliant, and we look forward to seeing what else he can create within the LED industry.”
