RoseStreet Labs Develops World's First Silicon-based Long Wa

led bulb, has utilized low cost silicon wafer substrates to develop  the world's first long wavelength LED device.

The RSL longer wavelength device is fabricated utilizing commercial scale deposition tools at RSL's Nitride Research Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
In contrast to the more traditional sapphire or silicon carbide substrates typically utilized in LED fabrication, silicon substrates have a substantial cost advantage.

Green or longer wavelength nitride based led bulb are very challenging to fabricate compared to UV and Blue LEDs due to decreasing quantum efficiencies. Efficient long wavelength led bulb are essential milestones in the roadmap for Solid State Lighting (SSL), LED backlighting and next generation display technology.

Based on the breakthrough,RSL plans to package the Green and longer wavelength led bulb through its sister company, FlipChip International (FCI) which experiencing in packaging semiconductor power devices . And FCI plans to provide a proprietary packaging solution for these LED devices.

In additionb, RSL scientists have also demonstrated initial tunability of this technology to multi-color and white light spectrums. The company believes this technology can be commercialized in 2-3 years with migration to 200mm silicon substrates.
