ElectroniCast forecasts nearly $1.7B Asia-Pacific market for

Aptos, CA -- ElectroniCast Consultants, a leading market & technology forecast consultancy, today announced their 5-year market forecast of the Asia Pacific consumption of light emitting diode (LED) lamps in General Lighting applications.

According to the ElectroniCast study – In 2012, the Asia Pacific region (APAC) consumption value of LED lamps in General Lighting, reached $1.45 billion. The consumption value will increase with strongly rising quantity growth partially offset by declining average prices.

This market forecast is segment by 8-major LED Lamp categories and 3-major End-User categories: Government, Commercial/Industrial, and Residential. The study also provides a detailed forecast by geographical segments: China, Korea, Japan and Rest of Asia.

The Commercial/Industrial user category is forecast to dominate in terms of relative market share during the 2012-2017 timeline; however, both the Government and the Residential segments are forecast for faster annual growth. “The Commercial/ Industrial group is especially strong in the PAR lamps, MR lamps and General Service lamps; Government is forecast to be a relative heavy user in the streetlight product category; Residential is forecast with relative strong use in the General Service and MR lamp types,” said Stephen Montgomery, Principal Analyst- LED group at ElectroniCast.

The report points out that the increasing automatic assembly and test manufacturing process for selected LED solid-state lighting products allows for mass-production capability. In addition, over the next few years, the average selling prices of the SSL general lighting products will be driven lower, as a result of production efficiencies, yield improvements (aided by quality controls), competition (both market competition and technological competition), marketing/sales distribution improvements, and other factors.

The consumption value of LED-based tube Lamps used in General Lighting applications in Asia Pacific was $75.08 million in 2012. The longer tube lamps (1.2 meters or longer) are forecast, by ElectroniCast Consultants, to dominate this particular product category. Of course the longer lamps have a higher average selling price, but still – even in terms of volume (quantity), the longer linear (tube) lamps are forecast to command the lead.

The consumption of LED-based general service lamps (bulbs) used in General Lighting applications in the Asia Pacific region was $360 million in 2012 and is forecast to increase to an impressive $1.686 billion in 2017. The market forecast is segmented by A-15 and the top-level data for the A-19/Other Type A lamps.
