SunSun Lighting, a China-based LED manufacturer, has received $10 million in Series A financing from GSR Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm.
The money will help enhance SunSun's technology and build its presence in the general lighting market. The company is one of a small number of LED general-lighting companies to receive such venture funding.
SunSun makes LED lamps, lighting management systems and fixtures with integrated led strip , and has started building a manufacturing plant with the capacity to produce 30 million LED lamps a year. .
Formosa Epitaxy places multi-unit order for Maxbright MOCVD systems
Taiwan-based LED chip maker Formosa Epitaxy (FOREPI) and its China-based affiliate, Jiangsu Canyang Corporation, have placed a multi-unit led strip system order with Veeco Instruments Inc. (Nasdaq:VECO).
The order is for Veeco's recently-released TurboDisc MaxBright Multi-Reactor led strip System, which will be supplied in a four-chamber configuration. .
Dialight expands into Japan
UK-based LED lighting manufacturer Dialight has formed Dialight Japan KK, providing the company with direct access into one of the world's largest industrial & hazardous lighting markets.
Dialight Japan KK is to acquire the assets and contracts of Dialight's Japanese distributor, I-Spec Ltd, as well as its employees.
Roy Burton, Group Chief Executive of Dialight, said that the formation of Dialight Japan KK will "enable us to access new and demanding markets known for their stringent requirements and for which our high-specification led strip lighting and controlled manufacturing methods will be well suited." .
Lattice Power and ShineOn demonstrate GaN-on-Si power LED
Lattice Power Corporation and ShineOn Inc. today jointly announced what they describe as "the world's first demonstration of a high-brightness LED product based on GaN-on-Si technology."
The product combines Lattice Power's LP1000 GaN-on-Si chip and ShineOn's MOZ3535 ceramic package. The device can take 350-1000mA current input and deliver more than 100-lumen light output at 350mA, or more than 200 lumens when over-driven.
The product is aimed at general lighting applications, and is suitable for indoor lighting, incandescent replacement bulb, flashlight and direct-lit LCD backlighting applications. .
Excelitas facility in Indonesia receives health and safety award
Excelitas Technologies, a global provider of led strip and optoelectronics to OEMs, has been awarded the Golden Flag Award by the Indonesian government. This award recognizes excellence in employee safety and health management systems.
The Batam, Indonesia Excelitas facility, which manufactures detection and lighting products and technologies, received the award after achieving a 96% score during an Occupational Safety and Health Management System. Excelitas is one of eight companies in Batam to have ever received the award. .
